Blurb : It had been clear from the beginning, that Emma, Eli and Evey Wilson would be tied together by more than just a name and the blood that flowed through each of their veins. They would be bound for life by the secrets of their past and the lies that kept them hidden.

After a fire devoured their family home and left them orphaned at an early age, Emma, Eli and Evey found themselves being raised by their grandfather and learning the ropes of life on the ranch. A life that quite suited Emma and Eli, but left Evey desperate to seek out a way to escape and run off to the big city.

An escape she soon found in Preston Mercer.

It wasn’t long after Evey rode out of town on Preston’s white horse that he revealed his true colors and what had been her dream come true became the stuff of nightmares. While Evey weathered the storm on her own at first, out of spite and sheer stubbornness, she finally broke her silence and called her sisters. They instantly rushed to her side, just as they had always done. Just as she had known they would.

As Pandora’s Box was opened for the second time in 25 years, the sisters prepared for what would be their greatest battle yet. Would Evey be able to escape Preston’s wrath? Would Emma be able to face the monsters of her past? Would Eli find a way to heal the scars that had not only bound her body but shackled her very soul? And, most importantly, would there be room amongst the skeletons to hide another body?

Join them on their journey, as they fight the enemy, embrace the ally and find out if love really does conquer all.

FIVE STARS FOR COUNTRY GIRLS, June 28, 2012

Country Girls
Author; Karina Gioertz

A fire would change the lives of three children forever. As they watch their home burn into ashes and see their lives go up in flames what will be their final fate? Emma, Eli and Evey Wilson have lived through a devastating fire that enveloped their home, took away all of their possessions and would orphan them.

Fearing that they might wind up in foster care and separated they were lucky that the social worker was persistent and found their grandfather. Fast forward twenty five years as the girls moved to Louisiana to live on their grandfather's ranch and now let's find out what happens to them in the present as once again author Karina Gioertz presents a story that is heartwarming, humorous, sad and will definitely touch your heart.

Moving ahead to the present we meet Emma and Eli along with Harry living and working on his ranch. The dialogue and banter among all three lets the reader know just how much they have grown and how they care about each other. But, the reader also gets a hint that something is definitely wrong with Eve who writes she is having a child but has not been in contact with her family that often. Listening to Eli speak about her sister and their discussion about the man she married leaves the reader wondering about Eli's marriage and the rest still remains to be seen.

Next we see both Emma and Eli at Mike's bar and the discussion rather rowdy leads to a barroom fight and landing them all in jail. This is one scene that is hilarious. What follows next will alert the reader to the fact that Eli is not only perceptive but right on target about Evey's husband. One phone call would change the dynamics of everything for these three girls as Emma finds out the truth about her sister's life. Rescuing Evey brought the wrath of her husband Preston but what Eli does to quiet him down his a riot. Pointing a gun at them a mistake what she does downright amazing. What were they going to do with Preston and how were they going to get away with what they did to him even though he deserved it?
But, what happens to him is right out of a Laurel and Hardy movie with a little more drama and tons of humor if you really want to think about it and will bind these sisters forever as they create an illusion that hopefully will remain in place. This is one story of loyalty, love, friendship and hope that you won't want to miss.

The characters in this novel are all different even though they are sisters. Each one is so well defined and described by the author and their personalities so full of energy and honesty making her novels stand out. The plot line is true to life and the situations although fictionalized in this book examples of real life incidents that could really happen with some comical twists, turns and tears along they way. But, they are not out of the woods by any means as Preston's family hires a private detective to find him and Evey reporting them both missing.

Eli's reaction to the PI is a riot as she hampers him from finding the ranch, refuses to give him directions and explains that since he is the PI he should be able to figure how or use his GPS how to get somewhere. When the investigator shows up and the discussion is completed the end result is Harry feels they might need a lawyer. Enter Shawn doc's nephew and tough Eli gives him jibes, jabs and more flack than you can imagine as two police detectives show up, question Evey and the hunt is on to find out where Preston might be, who will be found guilty if anyone and whether Eli will ever lighten up and give poor Shawn a chance to help her.

But, more secrets come out about the truth about their parents, what happened to Harry's daughter and their father. Lies, secrets, betrayals and one woman's life hangs in the balance when trying to defend her sister. With Shawn trying to help Eli and the police trying to make a case against her will she see the light and allow someone help her? Why is she so angry all the time and when will the wall come down? As Emma tells the story in her own words we hear the human emotions coming through loud and clear as each character's individual voice and frustrations are heard.

What happens is short of a miracle as the author allows the reader to see Eli in a different light as Shawn tries his best to clear of her any charges before they are pressed. One family bound together by the secrets of their past, one night that they would never forget and a love that is so strong nothing would or could tear them apart. What Shawn does and how he just might figure it out is great as he baffles the investigators and proves that some lawyers are three steps ahead when the police are more than five behind.

Just how this how this all works out and what finally happens you will learn if you read Country Girls and get to know Eli, Emma and Evey and a special surprise at the end when you read this great book. Harry Wilson said it at the end of the novel and I have to agree: When he looks at the three girls he realized that "He finally got something right." So, did author Karina Gioretz when she wrote this amazing Five Star book. What will the future hold for this family and where will life take all three? Let's hope she writes the sequel real soon.

Reading the preface, I was looking forward to reading this book...and it was definitely a page turner! I enjoyed feeling like you could really know the characters and the unexpected twists throughout. In fact, I was left wanting to continue to read about the girls and what their next adventure would be.

Don't mess with Country Girls, May 13, 2012

Story Line: At an early age and a life changing event puts three sisters alone together with a grandfather they didn't really know well. Growing up they continued to stay close until Prince charming came to save one from the hardship of the country life. Distance seems to fall between the two girls staying together and the one far away. However, when prince charming starts to show his true colors the sisters are quick to return to each other's side. After another life changing event it seems the sisters have to lean on each other again to come out of the crazy adventure that lay before them.

Characters: Eli, Emma, Evey, Harry, Brady, Shawn, Preston

My Favorite Character: Eli Wilson with her strong will and attitude to match. She doesn't need a man and she doesn't need the town's gossip about her either. Always ready to stand up for herself and isn't afraid of the outcome.

My Favorite Part: It is really hard to pick just one. I guess one of them I'll tell you about is the bar fight. Eli gets her mouth going and starts in on one of the local gossip kings. Before long the guy is insulting Eli and Emma comes to stand up for her sister as well. It just shows how much of a pack these sisters have. Any moment they need to be there and they are. Just like when Evey calls and Emma and Eli don't miss a beat to go to her even with the long drive. It shows that even after time and distance that you can't stop the power of family and love. It also shows that siblings are always there when you need them.

Full Concept: Maybe I am a bit bias being a country girl myself but that put aside this book still is a great read. The country life is full of blood, sweat, tears, hard work and quick on your feet problem solving and this book has it all.

Overall Rating: 5 out of 5 stars. From the tragic on page one to the end I was captivated by this book, asking questions, wanting answers and pulling for things to turn out. I will definitely be recommending this book to my friends and can't wait to read more from this author.

I admit that being anything BUT a country girl; this book took a little warming up to. However, once I picked it up, I COULD NOT PUT IT DOWN! The country was merely the stage for this wildly entertaining look into the lives of three sisters whose love, strength and courage help them to conquer the demons of their past, stir up a lifetime of trouble, and blaze a path straight to their future. It was an unexpectedly emotional journey that I hope goes on for generations to come! YEEEHAAW, what a ride!

Revenge Is Sweet, January 18, 2012

Let me start by saying that I'm not the biggest fan of fiction books. However, I have been swayed in my opinion by "Country Girls". I immensely enjoyed the mixture of humor and heartbreak. It kept me entertained throughout as I anticipated each chapter and every sarcastic remark to come out of Eli's (my favorite strong female character.) mouth.
Through Karina Gioertz's writing I could feel the love + pain and the loyality + disdain that each of her characters felt. It is wonderful to read that karma is still alive and well and that revenge can be sweet.

This is a great read that keeps you turning the pages. It's not your run of the mill story of family and the bond between sisters. It's got unexpected twists and turns to it. I laughed and cried as I followed the emotional journey of how their lives unfolded. Karina Gioertz is a master storyteller and as always, you walk away feeling like you really "know" her characters and where they've been. Karina has been writing most of her life. I'm excited to see her finally offer her gift of writing to the world :) Grab a cup of tea and curl up in your favorite chair with Country Girls, you'll be glad you did.
